Rae England, Executive Director

Rae England is the Founder and Executive Director of Love in Action International (LIAI). In addition to her career with American Airlines as Flight Attendant, Flight Service Manager, Tour Guide, and Public Speaker, Rae began working directly with the poor in the late 1970s supported primarily by fellow church members. Her work grew throughout the 1980s and gained its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 1990. LIAI has run volunteer programs at hospitals, prisons, homeless shelters, and schools. Rae has cared for families affected by domestic violence, drug addiction, homelessness, child abuse, forced migration, food insecurity, and more. LIAI has shown up in war zones, refugee camps, and everywhere in between. Rae began shipping containers of humanitarian aid to the former Yugoslavia when war broke out in 1991. Since that time, the international work of LIAI has expanded to Kosovo, South Sudan, Uganda, Jordan, Syria, and Afghanistan. 

The work of LIAI began when, in Rae’s own words, “I began to wrestle with a recurring question: ‘What is this life about, and what is my life to be about?’ In this timeframe, probably because I was open to seeing differently, I began to see needs. Those needs had been there all along; I simply had not seen them. ‘How is it that there continues to be so much need when we have so many helping organizations and religious communities?’ - this was the question I set out to answer. The answer to that question has been painfully life-changing. I began to recognize my part in suffering. That pain moved me to want to take only what I must and give where I can – to love God and put love for my neighbor into action.”
