GNC Donates One Year’s Supply Of Vitamins to Children in MexicoGeneral Nutrition Companies (GNC) agreed earlier this year to donate a year’s supply of chewable supplemental vitamins for more than 1,000 children living in Juarez and Chihuahua, Mexico. Many of the children reside in orphanages. Rae England, Executive Director of Love in Action Int’l, who shipped the vitamins in April, explained the partnerships, which formed out of this effort. “First, this would not have happened except for the generosity of GNC which responded to a request by Dr. David Rosenblum who is the director of Children’s Health Cooperative,” England said. “Dr. Rosenblum is a chiropractor in Woodstock, New York who works tirelessly on behalf of children all over the world.” Dr. Rosenblum learned of Dallas-based Love in Action, Int’l (LIAI) through his previous work with another Dallas organization, HUG Internationally. According to England, HUG Internationally sends volunteers and humanitarian aid to orphanages in Romania and had previously worked with Dr. Rosenblum. “HUG’s director, Judy Broom, recommended us to Children’s Health Cooperative as a good source for coordinating shipment of the vitamins and for reliable distribution to those in greatest need,” England said. LIAI regularly ships containers of aid to Mexico through a close association with Gil Sanchez, director of Casa de la Esperanza, an orphanage home for approximately 60 children. Sanchez coordinated local distribution of the vitamins in Mexico. GNC’s Generosity Didn’t Stop ThereIn June, GNC sent LIAI 980 bottles of vitamins for children in Iraq. “We partnered with Amira Matsuda, who has family in Iraq, and arranged for distribution to the Iraqi medical clinics which serve families with children having the greatest need,” explained England. “Each of these children will also have a year’s supply of the GNC vitamins.” Again, in July, GNC shipped more children’s vitamins. “This shipment went both to Casa de la Esperanza and to pastor Eloy Perez in Matamoras,” England said. “We have partnered with Eloy in the past and send containers to Matamoras two or three times a year.” Perez received enough of the GNC vitamins to provide a year’s supply for 300 children of impoverished families. Casa de la Esperanza received enough vitamins for 1200 children in the Juarez area. “This is a good example of what can happen networking with other organizations, businesses, and individuals,” England concluded. “Children who otherwise would not have basic essential vitamins have received a full year’s supply thanks to GNC and the efforts of many people. We are thankful for every effort.” |
